Conferences Pivoting to a Part-Virtual Platform
IEEE BigDataSE 2020 - Now Taking Place Part-Virtually
The safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority. After evaluating the current COVID-19 situation, the decision has been made to transform the in-person component of the conference into a part-digital conference
experience - the conference will now be a combination of online and offline event. Therefore, the conference will take place partly in Guangzhou, China and will also take place part-virtually. The conference dates remain the same -
December 29, 2020 - January 1, 2021. Proceedings will not be cancelled, and publications will continue as planned. For questions, contact BigDataSE2020 AT googlegroups DOT com.

Call for Participation

Welcome to participate in IEEE BigDataSE 2020, Guangzhou, China, December 29, 2020 - January 1, 2021! Guangzhou, a city in spring forever, is the capital city of Guangdong Province. Guangzhou is also the third largest city in China, located in the north of the Pearl River Delta, close to Hong Kong and Macau. With evergreen plants and flowers blooming all year round, the city has an alias of "City of Flowers". Guangzhou is one of the first batch of 24 historical and cultural cities released by the State Council, with more than 2200 years of history and profound cultural heritage, and also a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road. Guangzhou is one of the most famous tourist resorts in China, with a lot of tourist sites, such as Baiyun Mountain, Guangzhou Tower, and Yuexiu Park.

Big data is an emerging paradigm applied to datasets whose size is beyond the ability of commonly used software tools to capture, manage, and process the data within a tolerable elapsed time. Such datasets are often from various sources (Variety) yet unstructured such as social media, sensors, scientific applications, surveillance, video and image archives, Internet texts and documents, Internet search indexing, medical records, business transactions and web logs; and are of large size (Volume) with fast data in/out (Velocity). More importantly, big data has to be of high value (Value) and establish trust in it for business decision making (Veracity). Various technologies are being discussed to support the handling of big data such as massively parallel processing databases, scalable storage systems, cloud computing platforms, and MapReduce. Big data is more than simply a matter of size; it is an opportunity to find insights in new and emerging types of data and content, to make business more agile, and to answer questions that were previously considered beyond our reach. Distributed systems is a classical research discipline investigating various distributed computing technologies and applications such as cloud computing and MapReduce. With new paradigms and technologies, distributed systems research keeps going with new innovative outcomes from both industry and academia. For example, wide deployment of MapReduce is a distributed programming paradigm and an associated implementation to support distributed computing over large datasets on cloud. BigDataSE (Big Data Science and Engineering) is created to provide a prime international forum for researchers, industry practitioners and environment experts to exchange the latest fundamental advances in the state of the art and practice of Big Data and broadly related areas.

BigDataSE 2020 is the next event in a series of highly successful International Conferences, previously held as BigDataSE 2019 in Rotorua, New Zealand, BigDataSE 2018 in New York, USA, BigDataSE 2017 in Sydney, Australia, BigDataSE 2016 in Tianjin, China, BigDataSE 2015 in Helsinki, Finland BigDataSE 2014 in Beijing, China, BigDataSE 2013 in Sydney, Australia, BigDataMR-12 in Xiangtan, China, AHPCN-12 in Bradford, UK, AHPCN-11 in Banff, Canada, AHPCN-10 in Melbourne, Australia, AHPCN-09 in Seoul, Korea and AHPCN-08 in Dalian, China.
